ABOUT US

Island Environmental Hygiene have been trading on the Isle of Wight for over 20 years and running as a Limited Company since 2001. Directors Peter and Jenny Osborne founded the company in 1994 and through their hard work and determination they have made the business what it is today. They are both passionate about the company and it is their commitment and desire to provide the most comprehensive facilities and service to their clients that led to them setting up their own waste transfer station. Island Environmental Hygiene remain the only public waste removal company who are registered with the Environment Agency to run a clinical waste transfer station on the Island.

The Environmental Protection Act (Duty of Care) Regulations 1990 (Amended 1991) governs the disposal of waste within a business and Section 34 (1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 imposes a duty of care on any person who produces, imports, carries, keeps, treats or disposes of controlled waste in their working environment. Individuals must ensure that the waste they produce is handled and disposed of in a secure and correct manner. This is a legal responsibility and breaching of the duty of care is a criminal offence. This means that all waste produced within a business setting must be stored and disposed of responsibly in line with government legislation. Waste must only be handled by individuals and businesses who are authorised to do so and it is an organisation's responsibility to ensure that their waste is being disposed of legally. Island Environmental Hygiene is fully compliant with all aspects of this legislation and a copy of our permit, issued by the Environment Agency, can be found here

Further information on this legislation can be found here on the government website here.
